Tao Te Ching Chapter 1 - Explained

Welcome to the first WTWA Online blog post - the home of little tidbits of Daoist thought - and where better to start than the beginning?


"The Dao that can be named is not the eternal Dao..."

This is the famous opening line of one of humanity's most important philosophical texts: the Tao Te Ching.

The Tao Te Ching was supposedly written by the sage Laozi around 500BC. Chapter 1 explores the nature of knowledge itself. Through its paradoxical passages, we are shown the limits of thought, and begin to appreciate the mystery around us.
