Wudang, Taoism and Tai Chi

A UNESCO world heritage site, the Wudang Mountains in central China are the ancient cradle of Taoism, a cornerstone of Chinese thought and philosophy. The mountains are also home to Wudang-style Tai Chi Quan, a martial art that has been practised for centuries.

The Wudang-style is deeply rooted in the natural environment it hails from. Its movements evoke the flow of the rivers and reflect the solidity of the mountains.

Wudang Tai Chi can be considered the ‘trunk’ that branches out into other well-known styles such as Chen, Wu or Yang. It’s more philosophically focused than its counterparts, too: the roots of the tree being Taoism itself, emphasising harmony with nature, and the cultivation of inner peace.
