Wudang, Taoism and Tai Chi
A UNESCO world heritage site, the Wudang Mountains in central China are the ancient cradle of Taoism, a cornerstone of Chinese thought and philosophy. The mountains are also home to Wudang-style Tai Chi Quan, a martial art that has been practised for centuries.
The Wudang-style is deeply rooted in the natural environment it hails from. Its movements evoke the flow of the rivers and reflect the solidity of the mountains.
Wudang Tai Chi can be considered the ‘trunk’ that branches out into other well-known styles such as Chen, Wu or Yang. It’s more philosophically focused than its counterparts, too: the roots of the tree being Taoism itself, emphasising harmony with nature, and the cultivation of inner peace.
Want to learn Wudang Tai Chi?
A 15th Generation member of the Sanfeng Pai sect, Master Gu has been teaching Taoism and Tai Chi in Wudang for 15 years. He’s also the only master on the mountain fluent in English. Students live at his school in the Wudang mountains and learn Tai Chi and Qi Gong fully immersed in Chinese Culture, Taoist philosophy and the landscapes that inspire it.
Of course, Wudang can be a challenge to get to. For those who are unable to visit in person, studying with WTWA Online is the next best thing. Master Gu’s own online academy offers a high-quality Tai Chi course that is accessible from anywhere in the world
Built to closely replicate the experience of studying at his physical school, students get a complete curriculum, from tai chi and qi gong all the way to Taoist philosophy and Chinese Culture. There’s also a thriving student community and monthly live hangouts with Master Gu himself.
You're welcome to try the academy out for a week with our 7-day free trial. And what's more, you’re already here!
