Master Gu’s Taoist Wellness Free Course: Week 1
Be Your Own Master
Do the Dao Now
To finish our exploration of Taoist Wellness this week, I want to share one of it’s most important ideas: You can be your own doctor.
One of the best ways to demonstrate this is to take a question I am often asked: “what is fengshui?”
Fengshui translates to "wind and water". It’s a spiritual science that guides people in making choices about their homes and lives. However, it’s often forgotten that fengshui encompasses more than just the external environment. It also includes your internal environment.
There are instances in China where people make radical, expensive changes to their homes and yet their lives remain unchanged, leading to confusion and disappointment.
It is crucial to note that wellness, just like fengshui, also stems from oneself. Cultivating a strong Qi field and learning to take care of your mental wellbeing can do far more benefit than moving furniture.
Taoism teaches that you are your best doctor and healer. You have enormous healing potential within you. Your energy, your mindset and your practice are key to buliding and maintaining a resilient mental and physical wellbeing, free from excessive external influence.
Action:
- Treat your mind like your home and lead your own fengshui. Are there any knots in your thoughts?
- Is something getting in the way of you thinking clearly or calmly?
- What focused action can you take to solve this problem and improve the flow of your thoughts and Qi?
Happy explorations,
Master Gu

I got into Daoism around a year ago. I was channel hopping at home and a Chinese historical drama came on. I saw how they featured Daoism and the Chinese way of life, and realised it was basically the way I had been living my life for the last 50-odd years.
I looked for more information on Daoism and that’s how I found WTWA: by accident (though we all know that accidents are not really accidents!)
If you’re looking for the true Daoist culture but you can't get to Wudangshan, then you’ve found the right place. You can still live Daoism by accessing the platform and its content.
Everything on the platform is really interesting, from the lessons themselves to all the extras like the livestream and communities. Master Gu’s teaching is at once fascinating, fun and authentic. I’ve learned not just Chinese Culture and Daoism but Tai Chi and Qi Gong too.
Do give it a try because it's really, really worth it. You can study whenever and wherever you like. To me, it’s the best academy out there.
